About

In the context of the cooperation with Microsoft the Center for Computing and Communication of the RWTH Aachen University wants to establish a Windows HPC User Group for the German-speaking countries as a platform for information exchange among Windows HPC users, as well as for the interaction between users and Microsoft. Since 2008 a two days meeting is organized in Spring at changing locations.

 

Past Activities

  • The 4th meeting of the German Windows HPC User Group took place in Karlsruhe on March 31st and April 1st.
  • On March 22nd to 25th 2011 the Parallel Programming in Computational Engineering and Sciences (PPCES) workshop took place in Aachen, teaching the basics of High Performance Computing and Parallel Programming. All course content is applicable to and available for Linux as well as Windows.
  • Christian Terboven from RWTH Aachen University is part of the Microsoft Customer Advisory Board (CAB) for Windows HPC Server and participated in the CAB-Meeting in Redmond, WA, USA on Nov 30th and Oct 1st 2010. During this event, the most important properties of current and future features of the product have been discussed and reviewed, from a user's point of view. Due to the participation in beta and early access programs, RWTH Aachen already provides a Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 (and soon SP1) based cluster for the users.
  • 3rd meeting of the German Windows HPC User Group on March 11/12 in St. Augustin on Schloss Birlinghoven.
  • On November 16th, there was a meeting of the International Windows-HPC User Group attached to the Supercomputing 2009 (SC09) conference in Portland, OR, starting at 11:30 pm (registration) until 4.30 am. Dr. Jack Dongarra (University of Tennessee) will give the keynote speak, accompanied by Christopher Chang (Honeywell), Dr. Tsengdar Lee (NASA), Cory Kitzan (Intellectual Ventures), Dr. Birali Runesha (University of Minnesota Supercomputing), Charles J. Nietubicz (US Army) and David Lifka (Cornell). The event took place in the Portland Art Museum, 1219 SW Park Avenue,Portland, OR 97205.
  • The HPC Server 2008 newsflash for December 2009 has been made available (German).
  • The HPC Server 2008 newsflash for October 2008 has been made available (German).
  • 2nd meeting of the German Windows HPC User Group   on Marchl 30./31. 2009 in Dresden
  • Windows HPC User Group  on November 17, 2008 in Austin (TX, USA)
  • Windows HPC Server 2008 launch on October 16, 2008 in Frankfurt [poster (de)
  • The Center for Computing and Communication of the RWTH Aachen University conducted the Windows-HPC 2008 workshop on July 08./09. 2008 [event website]. This event has been repeated on September 17./18. 2008 in english [event website].
