Configuration of the RWTH WLAN 802.1x access
with Windows Mobile 5
without additional tools
Step 0:
Important: Please assure that you have set a new password for your WLAN/VPN account in the user administration TIM, after February, 1st 2008. If you didn´t set a new password or if your are not sure, please set a new password!
Step 1: Downloading the certificates
At first you have to install the following certificates on your phone. Please download the following ".cer" files:
Certificate of the RWTH CA (Global Policy)
Step 2: Installation of the certificates
The downloaded certificates must be copied to the phone with ActiveSync for example in to the My Documents directory. With the help of the "File-Explorer" (Start->Programs) navigate to the previously chosen directory (here: My Documents):
Step 3: (Optional: Checking the certificates)
If the installation of the certificates was successful completed, the certificates must be found at the certificate storage. Use the following instructions to check that:
- Start
- Settings
- System
- Certificate
- Root
- In the following menu the following three certificates must appear: "Deutschen Telekom", "DFN-Vereins" and of the "RWTH-Aachen".
Step 4: Configuration of the WLAN:
Now you have to set up the WLAN:
- Start
- Settings
- Connections

Now all available networks will be displayed. Please choose "eduroam"
- Nothing to change. Click "Next"
- Choose WPA as authentication method and "TKIP" for the encryption. Then click "next".
- Choose PEAP as EAP type, then click "Finish", not "Properties".

Now click "eduroam" until a select list is displayed. Choose the list item "Connect".
- As user name you have to enter your TIM id followed by the suffix @rwth-aachen.de. As password enter the corresponding password. The field "Domain" remains empty.
Step 5:Browsing the internet
After you clicked "OK" you can browser through the internet.
