A vpn tunnel is an encrypted connection between a client and a server. Any traffic which is sent through the tunnel is save from eavesdropping and seems to originate from within the servers network. The client is then a logical member of the servers local network.
A computer which connects to the RWTH vpn can access RWTH internal services. Furthermore it is subject to the terms of use which apply within the RWTH network.
To use the RWTH vpn services a vpn client is required. The client simulates a virtual network card which is then logically connected to the RWTH vpn server and assigned an RWTH internal IP address. At the moment there are several alternatives:
| System | Description |
| Cisco VPN CLient | IPSec Client. Installationguides & FAQ |
| Cisco AnyConnect Client | SSL VPN System. Supports all Operation Systems. |
| Shrew VPN Client | 3rd Party Solution which seems to be compatible. Use at own risk. Support by our ServiceDesk is not granted. |
