Grid - What´s that?
The denotation "Computational Grid", short "Grid" deduces from "Power Grid", the electricity network. This should clarify the main goal of the Grid, the omnipresent availability of computing- and data services.
The objective of a Grid is, to realize a large computing power, independent of the location of the user.
With the implementation of the NRW-Grid, we have the intention to utilize the computing power which is available at any desk. So we build a infrastructure where on the one hand any member of the RWTH Aachen University can integrate his own PC into the Grid and on the other hand computing jobs can be distributed.
In extension of the RV-NRW, a NRW-wide Computational Grid was established.
