How to participate?
There are three requirements for the participation:
- You need an ID in our user administration (TIM)
- The computer must be within the RWTH network or with in the network of a participating University. The connection should be made at least via DSL
- One of the following operating systems must be installed: Windows XP, Windows 2000, Linux
A TIM-ID is assigned to every student with the matriculation at the RWTH Aachen University. If you already have a user ID and a password, this is the ID you use for dial-in services or for your email address, you have the required ID. If you do not have such an ID you can use this form to apply for an ID.
User of the RV-NRW can be registered in TIM by their Center for Computing and Communication.
How to integrate your computer? If you fulfill the three requirements, you can unlock the service "NRW-Grid" by yourself via the user administration (TIM) (Manage accounts).
After a few minutes you will get a confirmation email with further instructions. At the same time a workspace where you can upload computing jobs and get the result will be created at the Grid.
Installation of the Condor software
For Windows and Linux you can find installation packages of Condor software here.
After the successful installation, you have to include the configuration file, which is located at the upload directory of your Grid workspace. See the installation instructions on the download page. Then your computer is active and can take part as a computing resource.
If you have more computers, the same configuration file can be used for the other computers.
If you use a firewall, you have to unlock the ports 9600 - 10600. If you have problem please consult the according documentation.
