Sophos AntiVirus software

The Center for Computing and Communication provides the SOPHOS virus scanner (Sophos Endpoint and Security Control) for free. The virus scanner can be used by all institutes and facilities of the RWTH and FH Aachen. Also employees and students can use the scanner for free.

Installation of IDE files

On systems without a network connection, the Center for Computing and Communication provides the possibility to download the latest IDE files. The IDE files must be copied to the following path:
c:\Programme\Sophos\Sophos Antivirus\
After a restart of the system, SOPHOS will use the new IDE files to detect viruses.

Sophos Enterprise Console

What is the Sophos Enterprise Console?

The Sophos Enterprise Console is a collection of tools for a centralized and automated administration of installed SOPHOS clients. The tools make ist possible to install updates and administrate SOPHOS clients in large networks. Updates will be installed automatically.

Enterprise Console or Sophos Anti-Virus AutoUpdate?

To get the latest IDE files the Sophos Enterprise Console or the AntiVirus AutoUpdate can be used.

Enterprise Console

The Enterprise Console should be used in large institute networks. The use of the Enterprise Console reduces the traffic on the institutes uplink, because the the Sophos Update Manager (SUM) component downloads the IDE files and the local clients get the files from the locale Enterprose Console.

Sophos Anti-Virus AutoUpdate

The SOPHOS AntiVirus AutoUpdate should be used if only a few systems have to get the latest IDE files. The Center for Computing and Communication provides a central Enterprise Consoley which can be used by the client to get the IDE files. The following table shows the paths for the AutoUpdate

Sophos Boot CD

In some cases it might be required to do an Offline-Scan of an infected System to successfully remove malicious software. Sophos provides a tool for Windows to easily create a bootable Disc. unfortunately this tool is provided on-demand only by sophos support. Please contact us, if you are in need of this tool.
